Poly’s Boys’ Soccer program utilizes a methodology that mirrors those of top collegiate and professional programs. With support from an outstanding staff, Coach Matt Pavlich’s goals for the players are to improve the team’s technical, tactical, sportsmanship, and overall fitness levels. Poly Prep competes in the Ivy Prep League and against strong local non-league competition. The team advanced to the 2019 NYSAIS Quarterfinals and in 2022 the Semifinals. The team continues to gain competitive experience on the pitch harkening a bright future.

Boys’ Soccer Head Coach Matt Pavlich joined Poly Prep in 2022. A lifelong student of soccer, he was a two-time Liberty League Academic All-Conference selection although he was a backup on the Men’s Soccer team. After graduation, he pursued a career in soccer, primarily as a coach, and has been part of championship high school programs at Riverdale (JV Coach 2012 and 2013) and Martin Luther King (Assistant Coach in 2016, 2017, and 2021). Matt has extensive club coaching experience, working with players and teams that have competed at the national level. He has also worked for sports data firm Opta, where he started as an analyst, before eventually contributing editorial work, alongside publishers and broadcasters, covering men’s and women’s soccer all over the CONCACAF region. Matt has also written a series of analytical articles for the Major League Soccer website. He has called Brooklyn home for over a decade and is a candidate for the United Soccer Coaches “Premier” Diploma. He holds an Advanced National diploma and the USC Director of Coaching Diploma. He completed the Statsbomb “Set Pieces” Course (now discontinued) alongside numerous first-team coaches from the highest levels of the game. Matt is also a coach for Downtown United Soccer Club, where he firmly believes in the mission of “Soccer For All.”
